Getting rid of the pacifier.....

So we finally got rid of the pacifier at the end of May. We were down to three and I was not about to buy anymore and although I was sad to see my convenient friend go, it was time. Brianna used her last three pacifiers to buy a Jesse doll from toy story and a princess castle. The store employee was great and took her pacifiers and gave her the toys in her own bag. The first night was tough she told me to take the castles back and get her the pacifiers, but as the days went on it definitely got easier. Our nights now consist of a very chatty girl who used to have a "paci" in now talks a lot when it is time for bed, but one that sleeps more soundly because she is not searching in the night for her pacifiers :)

I love the snow and living so close to the mountains has been one huge advantage to where we live. It only took us 45 minutes to get to mile marker 26 which is where we stopped to have a few fun hours in the snow about a month ago. I found the place to stop on daytrippingmom.com (love the blog) and it was such a great spot! Lots of snow for Brianna to play in, we even went back two days later with more family so Brianna could play with one of her favorite people "Ellie"!! They had a great time together especially sledding on their fun sleds.

Here is my favorite picture from this past weekend on our mini vacation to San Diego. Brianna loves the gorillas at the zoo, so here she is giving one a big hug. We had a wonderful time, seriously every minute was great!

Apple Picking Time!

We went up to Oak Glen on one of my Fridays off and had a great time. It is so pretty up there and always twenty degrees cooler. Brianna really liked this activity and the best part was making my first apple pie with her later. Surprisingly it was really good!

Our week at the beach!

We spent a really fun week at Newport Beach with Karen. She rented an awesome house which we were luck enough to stay in for 7 nights. Brianna is definitely a beach girl and even though some days were a little chilly she loved every minute! These are a few of my favorite pictures. More to come of course because we did lots of things that I want to share!

I was so relieved that she took long naps right on the beach it allowed me to stay on the beach and relax, so nice!
We bought a boogie board for $10.00 from a traveling salesman, and it was well worth the money. Our little daredevil has no fear and jumped right on!
These were the best moments for me watching the two loves of my life having the best time!

Sea World!!

So we decided last minute on a Monday morning to go to Sea World and make a fun little get away by staying the night and going to the Zoo the next day. It was such a great time!

Brianna watching Shamu, which I must say is not as exciting now that the trainers do not get in the water, but for Brianna it was AWESOME! She still talks about Shamu jumping up into the air :).
Cleaning our table after a pretty good dinner, oh and singing while she is doing it of course!
I cannot believe that my 18 and 3/4 inch daughter has grown to 34 inches so amazing!
I love this pic, it looks like Greg is riding a flying Elmo all by himself, but of course Brianna is next to him, so excited for her first ride!

The bottom pic is Brianna waiting to watch the pets rule show, she was so good for the shows, a very nice surprise for us!

Bubbles, bubbles, and more bubbles, she loved the bubble gun which was definitely worth the hefty 10.00 we paid for it! Especially since it still works, added bonus!

Easter

One of the great perks of living in an association are the activities that are within walking distance for Brianna. The Easter egg hunt today was a hit with our family of three, so I thought it was worth putting on the blog.

They put out 3000 eggs and separated it by age, besides playing with Olivia, this was Brianna's favorite part of the morning.

So Brianna had her 18 month check up on Friday and her Dr. who we love said to prepare myself because at her dentist appointment which is next week they will probably tell me to ditch the pacifier. What???? No way!! We and I do mean we love the pacifier. It has so many good uses, the pictures below demonstrate my case....Car rides always a nice comfort for Brianna to have and it helps to get her in the car when she doesn't want to leave somewhere.
Calming Brianna into the night time routine of reading books while I am exhausted from the day.
Taking naps in other places like Grandma's house at Thanksgiving.
Comfort for big Owies or Boo Boos like this one on her noggin.
And of course the biggest one of all sleep! Brianna begs to go in her crib so she can try her many pacifiers out, since she only gets her pacifier for sleep times, she loves to go to bed so she can get her pacifier fix.

So I think I will start saving now for the inevitable braces and ignore the dentist, as well as pretend that I don't see her teeth already showing signs that the pacifier is making them shift in the wrong direction. Her smile will always be beautiful to me! Besides now that I have my sleep back I dread the day when we do get rid of the pacifier like maybe when she is 5 :)

My Gym

So with the upcoming layoff looming ahead of me I started to think about how much fun Brianna has at daycare with her little friends. Not wanting to keep my social butterfly from making new friends since she won't have daycare anymore, we looked into Mygym. We tried a free class and it seems perfect. She is definitely more social and wild than the toddlers that were there during the freeplay time, but I think she still had a really fun time. So basically I think we found a good activity for us twice a week.Brianna doing a toddler sit up, she has some serious abs!
Watch out for my little gymnast! Feet in the air and everything, she thought that was so funny.
Of course Brianna's Favorite part the multiple swings that they hung from the ceiling!

On another note, why do I have my hands on my hips in two of these pictures? I think I need to work on a different stance, I look like I am judging something, anyway weird observation....

Coco the hamster!

So we decided to get a pet for Brianna something that could teach her how to be careful with animals. A hamster seemed like the perfect choice because they only have a 1-3 year life span, can be watched by anyone willing to take his little cage into their home when we go out of town, and only costs $9.99-therefore, perfect pet for the Elgans. For some reason however, I forgot the whole hamsters are nocturnal part which has led to Coco being downstairs in the laundry room for the night for his marathon running he does between 10 and 2. Overall though he has been a great pet for Brianna who loves Coco so much she has to see him every morning when she wakes up, somedays I think she is more excited about him than me :)

Great Christmas!

Brianna loves to smile for pictures for her Uncle Danny! Especially since she got to be in her fancy dress on top of the end table :)

The first Christmas was special because it was our first Christmas with our baby girl, but the second Christmas was fun! She loved opening her gifts and the ball pit from Santa, pictures are on the way, it is still a daily ritual to jump/bounce her way into all the balls. Santa is known as ho ho ho in our house, and I think she was sad to see him placed along with the many decorations into the tub for storage. All the fun of Christmas is just magnified by a thousand when you have kids. I can't wait until our third Christmas; cookies for Santa, driving around to see lights, and shopping for gifts for family that she picks out. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

What's new..

Well Brianna turned 13 months this week and so much has happened in just one month. She is trying to run which has caused a lot of falling. It's amazing how much a toddler can fall and just keep going. She is doing 10 signs now which has been really fun watching her do without our prompting. Hopefully talking will come next, she is trying to say ball and moon. Milk is still a challenge, she just does not like to drink it, maybe 8 ounces a day is the most. Sleep has finally gotten somewhat consistent. 3 molars are coming through, plus her 4th front bottom tooth-definitely not fun! She has never really had an issue with teething so this is something new for Greg and I. Basically the pacifier is magical! OK more posts to come probably of Halloween!

So you are probably wondering why Brianna's naked butt is on the blog so let me tell you. I was changing her diaper in the back of the car before our fun adventure at the pumpkin patch when she started playing peek a boo with Greg. After this picture she promptly squatted and peed on the yoga matt, awesome right? Yea funny, but awesome, not so much :)

Ok so it wasn't Knotts Berry Farm or anything, but this is Brianna's first ride! We went to the Ontario Mills Mall and this was definitely the highlight of Brianna's day. Remember when these rides were a quarter? This one was a dollar, wow! Worth every penny, of course!

The Camera has Been Located!

So Karen found our camera, HORRAY!!!!! So I am back into the world of blogging. If only it didn't take so long to put a video on here, oh well here are a few of my favorite pictures from the last 2 weeks.Sweet smile for the camera. You can't see her little teeth, but there are 6 chompers in there just waiting to eat anything we give her to try. I am enjoying this phase of eating because it probably won't last much longer she will find her favorites soon :).
Trying to brush her hair, which I quickly put a stop to because those pigtails are hard to put on a walking baby!
A quick picture before work one day. It has been a bit hard on all of us with me going back to work especially the first three weeks which were 45-50 hour work weeks. I can tell already though this week is much better with me back on my regular 3 day a week 26 hours schedule. I can already feel the balance of work and Brianna coming together.
She can actually play in her diaper now that she has been on a new medicine for her skin it is called dermasmooth. She actually doesn't try to rip her skin off every time I take her clothes off. So this is a rare picture of her just roaming around in her diaper playing with wipes she loves those things!
I think she may be ready for a pillow soon :) This is how I found Brianna one morning when I had to get her up to go to work.

So we had a rare Saturday that Greg did not have to work at night so on Sunday when we woke up we decided to take Brianna to the SD Zoo. It was a really great afternoon. We bought passes so if anyone ever wants to join us just give us a call :) Brianna's favorite part besides looking at all the people, was probably the duck area inside of the kid zone. We got a real work out with all the hills so we will try the little tour bus next time. Here are some of our pics of the day.

Brianna's First Fourth of July!!

We had a great time at Jimmy and Diana's for Brianna's first Fourth of July. She was such a good baby and had so much fun playing in the water. She almost made it to the fireworks, but fell asleep 15 minutes before they started in her Daddy's arms. I think that sounds better than a firework show any day! This is the only picture of this outfit because I drove away with it on the roof of the car-whoops!

Day at the Long Beach Aquarium

So we decided to take Brianna to the Long Beach Aquarium during the 4 days that Greg had off for the 4th of July. It was such a great day! She really loved every minute of it, especially the kids-there were a lot of camp kids-aww takes me back to the YMCA! Anyway, Brianna really loved it, we have year passes so she will get to see her favorite things; the birds, again and again.

This was a great afternoon that we spent at the pool before the June gloom came upon us. I was the photographer on this day, and Greg the daddy swim coach. Brianna loves the water, she really loved to watch the little girls that were swimming around before their lessons started. She got to crawl on the long step into the pool which produced a lot of splashing. Thanks Lisa for the water hat, it worked out perfectly! I am so excited for the many days in the pool that are ahead of us.

Daycare

Ok so these are a bit out of order, because I am too tired to fix it exactly how I want it, but hey at least I am posting a new blog :)Brianna thinking about where she is going to crawl first.
Saying Hi to Brody, who is 3 months older and her favorite baby to crawl after, he is a walker so a bit faster.
She loves the tunnel! In fact the first day that i brought her after she learned to crawl she went straight for it and laughed the whole way through.

This is from my first Mother's Day. I am so lucky to be Brianna's mom. This day was so special for me, considering I was beginning to accept that being a mom was not in my future when, hooray, a positive pregnancy test on January 11, 2008 brought me the hope that I had almost lost completely. I had a relatively easy pregnancy and a wonderful birth-painful, but complication free which is what I hoped for. Since that amazing day January 11, to now, I love her more and more. I am keeping a journal about Brianna and it is amazing all the changes in our little family that have occurred in these past 8 and a half months. I reflect on my life from time to time and still can't believe how blessed I am to have my sweet baby girl.

Brianna loves computer time with her daddy. She really likes Abby Cadaby from Sesame Street.
This is a new thing this week, holding on to the handle of the car seat or as Greg calls it the roll cage, while we drive. She usually falls asleep with her hands like that, what is she saying about my driving??
I wanted to try out pigtails on this day.
This is after her first nap of the day, she thought I was so funny with the camera. As always resting her foot on her knee.
I put this one on there so everyone will know what I am talking about with her peke mo. This is what she used to sleep in after the swaddle was done. It has been awesome for our itchy baby. The last two nights she has been wearing pajamas with out the peke mo and so far so good, I just file her nails down to the little nubs.

Brianna's first temper TANTRUM

So I do not have a picture for this post, but tonight we experienced a temper tantrum from our as of today, 8 month old baby girl. She is really trying to crawl and when she cannot reach something she normally will figure out a way to get to it, but not tonight. Tonight she threw herself backwards from sitting and started screaming and banging her feet on the floor and rubbing her hands on her face. Very mad baby.

Hopefully this crawling thing will happen soon because she really wants to get on the move. She scoots pretty well on her butt, and rocks back and forth on her hands and knees, but can't quite get her legs to cooperate in the forward motion. Maybe the temper tantrums now mean not so many in the toddler years. I know everyone with toddlers is laughing, but a girl can dream right?

Since I have not posted in a while, here are a few happenings in our world. Brianna has 1 tooth and one white bump right next to it on the bottom. She is clearly babbling mama, dada, baba, and quietly babbles to herself while exploring, so cute! My first Mother's day was awesome. Greg made me a beautiful book with pictures and commentary from the first 6 months of Brianna- yes it made me cry. We took my mom to breakfast and had dinner with the Elgan family both were very nice.

We are starting to try some finger foods this week. Brianna is allergic to avocado-random I know. Basically food is going to be an adventure for us so any suggestions on easy recipes or finger food ideas for babies is greatly appreciated! Especially because Brianna is already so independent she is ready to feed herself more than the puffs. Well that's it for now, pictures will be coming soon.

These are from 2 months ago, Daniel took them very spur of the moment. He is getting quite good, I will post the Easter picture soon, thanks Uncle Danny or Uncle Daniel, not sure what she will call you just yet, I guess it depends on who she copies more me or Greg.

Well besides the pictures, Brianna has had quite the cold, I still cannot decide if it is a cold, allergies, or teething hmmmmm. Either way the past few nights have not been fun, I guess we were getting really used to the eight hour stretch. I am thankful that I have Greg who is more than willing to take turns with me in getting up with Brianna and sitting for hours on end in the glider with her so she can sleep upright. This past weekend we had a fun Saturday with family and extended family at the Local 12 Union BBQ, it was a great time, I loved every minute of visiting with everyone. Ok well off to bed for hopefully a better rested Brianna night.

I know this is my third post of the night, but I could not resist sharing this picture! Brianna loves her hmmmmm......I think what is all around her mouth are green beans. Brianna has had green beans, peas, squash, sweet potatoes, mangos, bananas, peaches, apples, and pears-just in case anyone was wondering what has been on the menu-tomorrow is avocado. We had an exciting, well exciting for me, food event tonight. She picked up a puff with two fingers and placed it in her mouth, pretty cool, it made my day today!

No tears when I leave and happy to see the ladies which makes me feel better about going to work. He's Crafty!!

So Greg is now the ultimate daddy because he makes hair clips!! So cute! I tried to make one and basically it did not work out so well. I am definitely not that crafty. Greg on the other hand is quite talented. Brianna is modeling one of them in the top pic and the bottom pic are some of his bows. Yes, we are taking orders :)

Spa Baby!

Brianna has a new duck tub, this is how she like to lay in it, ahhhhh, relaxing at the spa.
We had such a great weekend, Brianna is such a happy baby these days, I can hardly remember the crying from the first three months-ha ha ha, just kidding it has not been that long :) She is so much better though, and we are finally able to venture out, horray! So these pics are from tonight and I just could not resist taking them when I heard Greg laughing at her saying, "Brianna are you at the spa?". She was sitting, decided she would like to turn, and when she landed like this she loved it. I think this tub is going to turn out to be a good 10 dollar buy.

I was looking through old pictures today and I cannot believe how much Brianna has changed in 6 short months, so crazy! This is our little love bug at a few hours old and even though she must have been exhausted, (I sure was) she was so alert. That is still something about Brianna that has not changed she is always so curious about her world.

Every day that passes I think about how lucky I am to be her mom, I love her so much and she has truly made my life complete.

Jen and Riley joined us for the big day at Oceanside Pier. The weather was beautiful, a little cold in the morning, but still a gorgeous day at the beach.

Ok so this has been a great week. Brianna has slept for 6 nights in a row! I probably should not even type this because I may be eating my words tonight, but I am still optimistic that this is working. I had to let her cry it out which I struggled with for a while, but Brianna has turned out to be a textbook colic baby so it really worked for her in 4 nights. I am sure as all the experienced moms out there tell me teething, colds, and vacations will cause some setbacks, but hopefully now that she has learned to put herself back to sleep my sleeping in 1 -2 hour increments for the last 5 months are a thing of the past. I cannot believe she is 5 months tomorrow. She is truly developing a personality now, and I love to see her little emotions, happiness, excitement, frustration, confusion, and contentment are just a few that are so visible now on a daily basis. She is a true smiley baby and is quick to reward everyone that says hello to her. Greg's b-day was Monday, I will post pics from our family day from Saturday soon. Ok well the laundry is done, so back to work.....

So Brianna rolled over for the first time on Sunday and hasn't stopped. She loves to be placed on her tummy now because she has figured out how to flip over. She has not rolled from back to front yet, but I am sure that will happen soon enough. She also got her first cold over the weekend, I am calling it a daycare cold because I am sure it is one of many that she will have from there, oh well kids get sick right? Not much you can do to prevent that. We had our first whole day without Greg since he is back to working far far away. I am glad he has a job, but it is very hard to have him gone for 14 hours a day. I got very spoiled with him home for the last 10 weeks. It will just make all our time together very special. Anyway, this is what I did with Brianna today videotaped her a lot, so fun. Tomorrow it is back to work. She has her shots on Thursday which I am going to try and postpone due to her little body trying to fight off the cold.

On another note, this is such a historic day that I could not possibly publish this without acknowledging how thankful I am to be an American where democracy has peacefully taken place today. I feel so positive and optimistic about the next four years. I hope it brings a better economy, a cleaner environment, affordable healthcare, and an educational system that works together for Brianna's sake. I work with so many families that are in need right now, I have not had so many people unemployed in the last five years as I do right now, it effects the whole family unit when parents are out of work. I know that presidents do not have magic wands, but I do believe that Obama is the right choice to help our nation pull out of the state we are in. Horray change is good!!!!

Daily adventures for Brianna

She loves to sit up and look around. We got a new camera- Thanks Karen, but Brianna is not to sure about the big black fancy lens so getting her to smile at the camera will take some time.
Here she is in her pink chair, or shower chair because that is where she plays while I take a shower before daycare/work. She looks like a different baby compared to the first one this was with the little digital.

Brianna loves her Christmas presents! I can't wait until she discovers that it is her reflection.

Well the first week of daycare is over. I cried the whole way to work on Monday, it was pretty rough, but I made it the whole day and rushed to get her at 4pm. Of course when I got there she was happy and having fun. Her naps in the afternoon there were 2 hours which is awesome, now if I could only make that happen at home. I know it will happen in time, hopefully..... Let's see what else for the week? She also had rice cereal for the first time! So fun to give her food which she took to immediately she is like a little bird opening her mouth and getting excited for the spoon. Her little personality continues to shine through and she gets upset if I take too long getting her next spoonful. So demanding :) She has been laughing more and more and looks so surprised when she makes a new sound, as though she is not to sure of where it came from.

I can't believe it is 2009 already, 2008 was so full it really seems like a blur. I am so excited to watch my little girl grow this year, I know it will go by fast so my goal is to enjoy every minute of it. Brianna is 4 months old and is really starting to explore her world. She is grabbing at her toys and pulls them to her mouth. She loves her lotion time which happens at least 3 times a day because of the eczema. The eczema is getting much better on her body and now it is only really irritated on her poor little face. Sleep is still a huge challenge, but I am hopeful that 2009 will bring our whole family more rest. Brianna starts daycare on Monday, so I will keep everyone up to date on how that goes. I am a little nervous about it, but I know she will be OK. Wow she is already waking up from her afternoon siesta, dang. I will post again later.

So this is what her eczema looks like when she has a flare up. The worst part are her eyes because we can't put the medicine on that part. For being so itchy she is still pretty happy during the day. Nights are another story. I never would have thought eczema would be an issue for our little girl.

Brianna had her first picture with Santa. I am not sure what she asked for, probably some relief from her eczema. Grandma Karen and Daddy took her for her picture while I was at work. Thanks Uncle Daniel for the picture taking!

Brianna looks like such a big girl in this picture, even though she is only 9 weeks old here. She is a good eater and is starting to sleep from 8pm until 6:30am (with a 10pm dream feed), wonderful! Now if we could get those stubborn naps down. Today is her big 10 week appointment with shots, Greg will have to be in the room for those. Her little personality is really starting to show, so I am sure she will express her feelings at the appointment today.

Brianna is 2 months old and very happy about it! We had our first infant massage class last night and she was the best baby! I think she will definitely enjoy the class.

Brianna's First Halloween!

Brianna had her first trip to the pumpkin patch. We met Justin, Mo, and Cailin for the big event. I am sure nest year the girls will have a lot more fun together :), we will probably be running after both of them! She was awake for half the adventure before she took a nice little nap in her sling. We love our little pumpkin!
